How to choose the right wedding photographer for YOU

Your wedding day is a once-in-a-lifetime event, filled with love and so many unforgettable moments. Capturing these precious memories requires the expertise of a skilled photographer who can translate the essence of your day into timeless images. But how the heck do you pick the right one???

  1. ALWAYS start by Defining Your Style: Begin by identifying the photography style that best reflects your vision for your wedding day. Decide if you are you drawn to traditional, posed portraits, or do you prefer a candid, documentary style approach, what colour grades and editing do you like or not like? Understanding the style in which you want your day captured, will help you narrow down your search and find a photographer whose aesthetic aligns with yours.

2. Research and Review: Take the time to explore photographers' portfolios online and on social media platforms. Look for consistency, pay attention to their ability to capture emotions and tell a compelling story through their photographs. How do their photos make you FEEL? Reading reviews from past clients can also provide super valuable insights into their professionalism and reliability, personality and what they are like to have around on your wedding day.

3. Meet in Person or Virtually: This one for me is SO important. As a wedding photographer, i find it to be absolutely crucial to have a face to face before contracts are signed or any money is exchanged. I need to make sure that the couple know how I work and what to expect of me and I need to see if them and their day are the right fit for me too! Schedule meetings or virtual consultations with your top photographer choices. Use this opportunity to get to know them personally and discuss your vision for your wedding day. Pay attention to how well you connect with them and whether you feel comfortable around themand confident in their abilities to capture your special moments.

4. Consider Experience and Value: While budget is undoubtedly a factor, prioritize experience and expertise when selecting a wedding photographer too. Experienced photographers have honed their skills over time, allowing them to anticipate and capture fleeting moments with ease. While newer photographers may offer attractive pricing, make sure you consider the value of experience, relaise that experience comes with a cost. Often, Photographers are priced they way they are simply because THEY ARE WORTH IT.

Have you ever heard a single newlywed say, ‘ God, the photos are so good but we definitely shouldn’t have spent that much on photography’ ???

Think of it this way, the food, the flowers, the music, the alcohol, they all are just for that one day, or for just a few hours on that one day. The photography is what lasts for years, passes down through generations of your family. ( If you like maths, spread the cost of your Photographer over lets say, 60 years and see how much they cost per day then… ?!)

5. Trust Your Instincts: Ultimately, trust your instincts and listen to your gut when choosing a wedding photographer. If you feel a genuine connection with a particular photographer and believe they understand your vision for your day, then simple, they are likely the right choice for you!

Pay attention to how you feel during your interactions with them, as your comfort and confidence in their abilities are THE most important things.
